The School ofSustainability"
is a communication and exchange platform that presents the World Heritage Site of the Upper Harz Water Management and the Harz National Park as a place of learning. A central component of the learning concept is the concept of sustainability, which historically originated in the Harz mining industry and its forestry in the 16th century. The name "School of Sustainability" goes back to the first forestry school ever founded in the Harz in the 18th century.
With its unique cultural and natural history, the Harz offers a multitude of new learning contents (resources, energy, ecology, social issues) that can be conveyed interdisciplinarily in new learning environments (nature, mine) and also via internet and smartphone. Over a temporal, spatial and substantive change of perspective a simple approach to the topic of sustainability is possible. Knowledge, competences and values can thus be conveyed in the sense of education for sustainable development (ESD).
